Life and a Sixteen-Year-Old by Lemuel Irabor #LAASYO 18 Sept.

18-Sept. Wednesday 'Oti M.' 'Present!',I exclaimed in riposte. Oh!Did I forget to mention that my surname is Oti.Heh-Heh. Anyway, our Principal's been getting reports that some final year students skip out of school during lunch. So he comes around with this big book and makes a role call every fifth period. He doesn't even do it in alphabetical order:he does it according to seating arrangement. 'Etuk J.' No answer. What the ...? I look beside me and notice Joe's not there. Sheesh,I didn't even notice. Some friend I am.. 'Etuk J.' Again,no rep- 'I'm hh..hhere,Sir.',Joe stuttered as he ran in,breathing hard. Mr Abdullateef, the Geography teacher(We had Geography for 5th today) said in his most sanctimonious manner,'Young Man,where are you coming from?' It sounded more like a command than a question. Everyone hates..er,really dislikes Mr Abdullateef. He's so self-righteous and...

Life and a Sixteen-Year-Old by Lemuel Irabor #LAASYO 17 Sept.

17-Sept. Tuesday. Getting used to this new school has been keeping me quite occupied. Today,We received our school uniforms:for boys,a yellow long-sleeve shirt bearing the school badge, with a black tie on black trousers, plus a black blazer also emblazoned with the school badge. The girls get yellow blouses and black skirts instead. Martha really looked chic in her uniform and I could already guess she had a busy day ahead of her. First class today was Biology. We had a rat-faced teacher with spectacles like Dexter(in Dexter's lab).He looked like a combination of something from Ratoutoille and Oscar in Oscar's Oasis. You get the picture.Once a boy tried to joke about the man's oversized pants. The teacher overheard and the hapless lad got sent out. Talk about making an impression. Next was Math.Teacher absent.A substitute teacher came but we pretty much did just revision and quick sums.No calculus yet. At Lunch,I decided to go to the school cafeteria..a...

5 proven ways you can motivate yourself

By Lemuel Irabor Contact: lifeandasixteenyearold@gmail.com    ALTHOUGH the concept of self-motivation is quite obscure when compared to inspirational stuff, it has been found to be indispensable in this jet age where the world progresses so fast that the passing time is a blur. In fact, after being inspired, one still needs to be motivated to take action. Think about it. You get inspired when you see the sufferings of people around you. You want to do something, but you still need a 'push' to begin actions that would alleviate their hapless state(s). "Inspiration gives you the big picture. Motivation is the fuel you need to make the small jumps towards accomplishment of the goals." That said, here are five (5) proven ways you can self-motivate. 1. Hypnosis Yeah, I know. Seeing 'hypnosis' probably took your mind back to experiences and tales of people being under spells and jinxes. Well, if magicians and witches know the importance o...

6 facts that prove women are actually stronger than men

By Lemuel Irabor Contact: LIFEANDASIXTEENYEAROLD@GMAIL.com (This is not a feminist post) While men may be seen on the tabloid pages and social media as the hulk-figured, big-muscled ones and women seen as the weak, shapely, sensual beings of considerable aesthetic value, one does wonder if things are as they seem.     Trust me, these 6 facts will change your mind! 1.   Women can endure greater levels of physical pain… It has since been proven that the pains associated with labour and childbirth are perhaps the most painful human sensations ever known. At various stages during the birth process, the terminal bones of the vertebrae (coccyx) shift amidst the uterine muscles contracting rhythmically, the vaginal walls expanding like crazy and all this just yells, ‘pain! Pain! PAIN!’ to the woman’s brain. Yet, a woman forgets all the pain as soon as she sees her infant? Amazing! According to readings from a labour pain-simulation machin...

Whether we are salary earners or high school students earning stipends to save towards having a college education, the feeling is the same. However, even the slight suspicion of being taken advantage of can foster ill feelings and has been found to be a leading cause mental health issues such as stress and depression. Here are (free) 10 glaring indications that you are being underpaid by your employer. 1. Your workload has increased but your pay hasn’t    Perhaps the most glaring evidence of your being underpaid is that you literally ‘work like an elephant but eat like an ant’.
